HOPKINSVILLE, KY — The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library’s Imagination Library Kick-Off Celebration will be Thursday, December 13 at 9:00 a.m. at Christian County Head Start, 1355 Glass Ave.
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library began in Sevier County, TN in 1996 to give children, between the ages of 0 to 5, free, specially selected, high quality, age-appropriate books sent directly to their homes every month. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library now partners with 1600 communities around the world providing books to almost 700,000 children each and every month. Dolly’s dream of instilling the love of reading and improving literacy for children has gone far beyond her Tennessee home.
We are proud to champion and to partner with community agencies in providing Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for residents of Christian County. The library’s goal is to reach 30% of our children (approximately 2,000) during our first year. Our Kick-Off Celebration begins our registration drive.
The Kick-Off Celebration will feature Grammy nominee and CMA, ACM award-winning country music star, Jo Dee Messina. Messina, whose multi-platinum music sales has won fans through-out the country, is also a mother of two and a strong supporter of children and education.
Registration brochures will also be available at Crofton Pharmacy, Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, Aaron McNeil House and the Head Start agency in Hopkinsville. The brochures will be more widely available in the near future. We would like to extend the invitation to attend our celebration, and especially, to help us register children living in Christian County for the wonderful opportunity to have quality books sent directly to the child each month until they reach the age of five.
