Country Music Superstar finished 13.1-mile race in 2:36:50; Performs concert for 25,000 runners one hour after crossing the finish line
San Antonio, TX – November 11, 2012 – From an event record to an unprecedented run-sing performance, the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon & ½ Marathon benefiting Susan G. Komen celebrated its 5-year birthday in style on Sunday morning November 11. On a warn Texas morning, more than 25,000 entrants took to the city’s downtown streets that attracted runners from all 50 states and 22 countries.
Not to be outdone, perhaps the performance of the day belonged to Country Music Superstar Jo Dee Messenia, who finished the half-marathon in 2:36:50 and took the stage approximately one hour later, headlining the event’s finish line concert outside the Alamodome. To the delight of thousands of runners in the audience, Messina performed wearing her half-marathon finishers medal, CEP compression socks and bright blue running shoes.
“Today was awesome, it could not have gone any better,” said Messina, who boarded a tour bus to Austin immediately following the concert. “Those bands out there on the course motivated me for our show; they really help break up the miles when you’re out there running. Living and promoting a healthy lifestyle is important to me as a mother and to combine it with my passion for music was a dream come true.”
2012 marked the 5th annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in San Antonio. Over the event’s 5-year history in San Antonio, runners have raised nearly $6 million for charity and out of town visitors have pumped millions more into the local economy.
