Country singer Jo Dee Messina will perform her greatest hits at the Event Pavilion at Seminole Casino Immokalee on Saturday, May 11 at 9 p.m. Tickets go on sale on Monday, April 1.

Messina grew up in Holliston, Mass. She was first attracted to country in the music of Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton. As a young girl, she performed in local plays and musicals, and by age 16 she was playing local clubs with a rhythm section made up of her brother and sister.

At age 19, she moved to Nashville, Tenn., where she entered talent competitions. One win led to a regular gig on Nashville’s “Live at Libby’s” radio show, which in turn caught the interest of producer Byron Gallimore. He helped her assemble a demo tape and introduced her to another newcomer named Tim McGraw. Backstage at one of his concerts, Messina met an executive from his label, Curb, and got a record deal on the spot.

With Gallimore and McGraw producing, Messina released her self-titled debut album in 1996. It spawned the two Top 10 hits “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” and “You’re Not in Kansas Anymore.” Her follow up album, I’m Alright, exploded with its back-to-back chart toppers: “Bye Bye” (ASCAP’s Song of the Year), “I’m Alright,” and “Stand Beside Me.” It made her the first female country artist to score three multiple-week number one hits from one album. She won the ACM’s Top New Female Vocalist award, the CMA Horizon award and the nod for Most Played Country Female of 1999 from Billboard. The Burn album entered the Country Albums chart at #1, went platinum and earned two Grammy nominations. Hits like “Because You love Me,” “Downtime,” “Bring On The Rain,” “That’s The Way,” and “Give Me a Damn’s Busted” would cement her reputation as one of the country’s most loved and enduring hit makers. Along the way, she solidified her reputation as an electrifying live performer, becoming one of the first women of country to mount a major headlining tour.
