REVIEW: BOSTONHERALD.COM

Holliston homegal Messina’s give-a-damn must’ve been busted after her record label delayed and then canceled the release of her new album.
In its place will be a trilogy of 2010 EPs, of which this is the first. It’s a departure from the good-time-girl contemporary country that has dominated her career. These seven tunes (two co-written by Messina, the rest by a posse of pros including “Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi) plus two live acoustic bonus cuts show a more vulnerable, introspective Messina, and they suit her strong, expressive contralto. Download: “Unmistakable.”

JO DEE MESSINA'S MOTHERING INSTINCTS TAKE OVER
May 6, 2010 | In news
When Jo Dee Messina gave birth to her first child, Noah, in January of 2009, she did not realize how much her life would change. She says the biggest surprise about becoming a mother was how much she would love her newborn son.
The pregnancy was not something the singer had planned. "My husband, Chris, and I knew we wanted to have kids, but it was always 'someday,' so when I found out I was expecting, it was a shock," she tells Nashville Parent magazine. "That's when I realized I had to give my parents a break because, like us, they were just two people trying to get through life when I showed up. We think parents are supposed to have all the answers, but they don't. God, don't let me screw it up too bad."
