CEDAR RAPIDS FREEDOM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES JDM TO PLAY COUNTRY CONCERT NIGHT
The Freedom Festival is excited to announce country music artist Jo Dee Messina will take the stage at Kirkwood Community College, Saturday, June 30, thanks to our sponsors Hy-Vee, KHAK, KCRG and The Gazette! She will be performing with The Hailey Whitters Band as her opening act.
The gates will open at 5:00 PM, and Jo Dee Messina is scheduled to hit the stage around 8:00 PM. Please feel free to bring your own chair or blankets to spread out and enjoy the night. A FREE fireworks display will immediately follow the concert.

SINGER JO DEE MESSINA RAISING MONEY FOR JOPLIN

JOPLIN, Mo. — There was talk of several benefit concerts by various musical acts for Joplin following the May 22 tornado strike, but country star Jo Dee Messina had a personal connection to the disaster.
Messina, 1998’s top new female vocalist, will perform a benefit concert for Joplin’s tornado victims inside Pittsburg’s Memorial Auditorium tomorrow night.
Originally, Messina and her longtime promoter, Joplin resident Al Zar, had launched a series of benefit concerts to help raise $2.3 million for a non-profit school in Nashville, Tenn. One of those stops included Pittsburg, Kan.

For country music star Jo Dee Messina, it is all about the music.
The award-winning artist was supposed to kick off her “Million Doors” fundraising campaign to help build a school in Nashville, Tenn. However, because of the deadly tornado that recently devastated Joplin, Mo., she will donate designated proceeds to the American Red Cross for Joplin relief, instead.
Messina has produced six No. 1 singles on the country music charts and has been nominated for two Grammy Awards. In addition, in 1998, she was awarded Top New Female Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music.
