On Thursday night, before Kevin Skinner and Jo Dee Messina took the stage, another concert-goer was bitten by a snake.

"We saw the snake moments before that and tried to get it," said James S. Grimes, fair board president. It was identified as a black snake.

The snake bit the woman on the top and side of her foot as she walked by the stairs in the A section of the grandstand. Emergency medical personnel suggested going to the hospital, but the Jo Dee Messina fan refused, saying she came to see the show.

And that's what she did.

The 3-foot-long snake was later captured by a maintenance worker during Messina's concert.

"From all reports (Friday), she's OK," Grimes said of the woman bitten by the snake.
