It's been awhile since country fans have heard new sounds from Jo Dee Messina, but all that's about to change, thanks to the release of her brand-new single, "That's God," earlier this week.
Messina inked the song, which nicely shows off her signature voice, with keyboardist Brent Rader after she had an epiphany while taking her son on a walk at a majestic tour stop in Canada.
Follow up:
"That song really is my soul on a page,” Messina says. “My son Noah was 5 months old at the time, and we were walking down this path and could see this snow-capped mountain that was enormous, but you felt like you could just reach out and touch it. I looked at my son and that mountain and said, ‘That’s God.’”
Later that evening while on stage, Messina said she shared the story with her audience, then after the performance keysman Rader suggested they put that moment and feeling to song. The result is the first single from her forthcoming disc for Curb Records titled Unmistakable, a project she co-produced with veteran Paul Worley.
Since breaking onto the music scene in 1996, Messina has scored nine No. 1 country singles, sold more than five million records, received two Grammy nominations and secured various CMA and ACM awards. Her many hits include “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” “I'm Alright” and “Bye Bye,” not to mention "Bring On the Rain" (a duet with Tim McGraw) and and the Kostas-penned “Because You Love Me," to name a sampling.
